“I Know What You are Going Through”
Tanya brings her heart and experience to work every day. Sometimes a person’s resume cannot convey the depth of knowledge, especially when that knowledge comes from life experiences. Tanya Benjamin is one of those people.
When she says, “I get what you’re going through,” she really does. Tanya is the only child to parents who needed her to be a caregiver from an early age. Her mother was disabled from birth, and her father came back from the Vietnam War disabled. She stepped in emotionally, physically and financially. Her experience with her family led her to a career in senior care services, including assisted living dining services, resident care and administration. Continuing with her advocacy roots, she is also a Fiduciary. And now, fittingly, Tanya is the Portola Gardens Move-in Coordinator.
Tanya’s mother lives at Portola Gardens, so she has the unique experience of being both a team member and a daughter of a resident. Jeffrey Dillon, Administrator, remembers, “during the time when visitations were limited, Tanya made it her priority to connect residents and families through garden visits, window visits, Zoom and the telephone. Now that Portola Gardens is open for family visits, she is even busier helping residents and families. She really wants families connected.”
