PARADISE, Calif. – Sunshine Assisted Living opened its doors to a rebuilt facility at a ribbon-cutting ceremony this morning.
Before the Camp Fire, Sunshine Assisted Living had three sections all located next to each other. The Cottage reopened in 2019, The Manor burnt down in the fire and hasn’t been rebuilt and The House reopened today. Action News Now spoke to CEO Cimino Care and he said there were some restorations to the house because of smoke damage the fire caused including new floors and a paint job.
“As I came up to the Skyway for the first time to visit this community, I was very moved by the rebirth and the rebuilding of Paradise,” Cimino said. “So when we toured we fell in love with this location and wanted it to become part of our communities to serve the seniors, especially in rural communities. What we are really excited about and really cherish is that this is a really home-like feel of a building. We want people to feel at home and the families to feel at home and welcomed.”
The House will be allowing 15 seniors in need of assisted living.
Action News Now spoke to Executive Director Jennah Baker about her experience working for the company.
“Because I was here for the evacuation in 2018, this is extremely meaningful to me,” Baker said. “I have worked here for almost a decade and helping seniors is really my calling. We lost the manor during the fire and that was my main building during the time, so coming back seven months after the fire to open the cottage was huge, and almost four years later now reopening the house is so huge. I think that there is a huge need for senior care in this community, especially Paradise because a lot of seniors do want to come back to their homes.
